Southhampton Concert History

Welcome to our website. Please take a look around and if you are interested in joining, or would just like more information about the band, email us at enquiries@southamptonconcertwindband.org.

Southampton Concert Wind Band has its roots in Redbridge Concert Brass, a conventional brass band formed in 1975 and sometimes seen entertaining the fans at “The Dell”, Southampton Football Club’s original Archers Road ground. In 1994 the band extended its membership to wind players, laying the foundations for what became Southampton Concert Wind Band. Conductor Peter Hyland had the not always rewarding job of coaching the fledgling band but his persistence attracted more players and as regular bandstand and concert engagements grew so did the band’s reputation in the local community.

Today SCWB plays an active part in the amateur musical community, providing the opportunity for wind, brass and percussion players to get involved in music making. Guided by conductor Calum Gray, the band has a broad repertoire and high standards. There is energy, challenge and attainment at SCWB and an active concert programme throughout the year.
